NZ Post

Mike Yates, director of Yates Freight, was employed by NZ Post Office in their workshops as an apprentice mechanic in 1979 qualifying with them as an A-Grade Mechanic in 1987.

1995

In 1995 Mike was made redundant from NZ Post and with his pay-out, purchased an owner/driver transport business delivering paper-based products around the Wellington region. This was the only time in his working career that he was not connected to the NZ Post structure.

First Contract

Then in 1996 Mike gained his first contract with NZ Post delivering mail and courier products around the Wellington region.

Growth

Mike has since grown the business into a large freight company contracting to NZ Post, and later undertaking similar contracts with Roadstar Transport.

The Fleet

The company operates a fleet of newer vehicles including a number of Volvo FH12 8x4 curtain-siders pulling four-axle trailers, Volvo FM 6x2 and 2 x trailers, FH12 6x4 tractors (truck cab) which usually haul five or six-axle B-trains, FD4x2 Hino Trucks and an FG 6x4 local delivery truck.
